ALBUM ART

THE CHALLENGE

Using the artist-provided imagery, design cover art for an upcoming EP and Single release.

THE   APPROACH

hand drawn oval.png

Preserving the essence of the original photograph was pivotal when concepting ideas for Meryl's music. Featuring 2 already had a visual language, established when its counterpart debuted a year prior. While staying true to this aesthetic, I added my own touch by incorporating stylized hand-drawn typography to give a focus to the composition: her guitar. Since the remainder of the drawing is line art, this choice added weight to the design, defining a hierarchy and emphazing the creator behind the project.

Howling, as a standalone recording, offered opportunity to explore creative directions organically. The image, defined as part of the brief, recognizably emmulates the stance of a wolf howling at the moon. Without being overt/literal by including a moon itself, I wanted to reference the subject of the song in the same manner Meryl hoped the creative would nod to her beloved dog. Stars and the moon go hand-in-hand, with constellations serving as a way to interpret meaning from their arrangement. For this reason, translating the photo as an illustration in the night sky seemed like the perfect way to allude to the lyrics in a clear but subtle manner.
